OCP has done a bang up job from day one. We are so glad to have you guys on the job. From the framers to the hangers and the finishers, you guys always do great work. The Ensemble product was new to us and new to BG, but your guys went out, got certified and did a great job. You have some really good guys out there - they kept the job proceeding, even when met with challenges. Always with a positive attitude. Your quality is excellent - it was reassuring to have you guys working with us.

Originally built in 1921, the refurbished Hanna Maurer Center will feature its original historical look on the west side of the building connected to a new east side portion with a three-story atrium. The facility will be equipped with amenities necessary for a world-class business school. The building will feature a cafe, classrooms and student organization space housing the hub for the College of Business. The total project cost is $44.2 million.

The center is aiming for Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) Silver certification.

Due to their expertise in tying historical buildings with new construction and LEED, OCP was awarded the project. The project posed several challenges, one being its location in the middle of campus with limited laydown area. Additionally, working on an older facility that had not been updated in 98 years and connecting it with new construction. All of the mechanicals throughout the entire structure were updated.

Despite these challenges, the OCP team was able to exceed expectations. The exterior was ahead of schedule with framing and an air barrier. Expected to take 10-12 weeks, the portion of the project was completed in 8.

To enhance the acoustical experience within the atrium, USG’s new Ensemble system was placed throughout the entire area. The OCP team went through a 3-day training program to become certified.

Described as the “new front door” for the university, the Hanna Mauer Center will be completed in the Fall of 2020.
