Topgolf, the Dallas-based golf and entertainment center, is teeing up to open in Columbus this fall. The 12-acre site situated in Polaris will employ 500 part- and full-time employees, with aspirations of contributing $264.5 million to the Columbus area economy over the next 10 years.
Open year-round, the 65,000-square-foot space is a multi-level driving range outfitted with high-tech components and climate-controlled hitting bays complete with TVs and a private lounge where guests can enjoy a variety of golfing-centric games. Each golf ball is outfitted with microchips to track distance and accuracy, scoring players based on targets hit.
Topgolf reports that nearly half of all guests describe themselves as “non-golfers,” however, with an array of pool tables, shuffleboard, food and drink, and various other diversions the entertainment center is meant to attract a variety of guest types. The entertainment component of Topgolf makes it ideal for attracting consumers in the present retail climate. With an estimated 450,000 visitors expected in the first year, the addition of Topgolf as an anchor tenant hopes to leverage those visitors for the surrounding retail as well.
While the market research showed that Columbus’ booming growth was ideal for a Topgolf location, of utmost importance was maintaining the quality of venue seen across the company’s 41 locations worldwide. Bloomberg reports that each of the company’s venues ranges in price from $20-25 million, and are complete with high end finishes to convey the brand’s commitment to high-tech entertainment and experiences.
As the Contractor of Choice, OCP Contractors was ideal for the project due to a record of quality-driven completed work. Despite much of construction occurring in the winter during extremely inclement weather, OCP was able to utilize problem-solving and a skilled workforce to complete work safely, on-time and to the highest standard. To maintain schedule, work ensued throughout weekends when the weather would allow.
Despite a labor shortage throughout the industry, OCP sustains a highly skilled workforce equipped to complete projects of any magnitude. Allowing more labor to be utilized when necessary. Furthermore, safety practices that exceed standard requirements ensure that safety is at the forefront of all work.
As work diligently continues, Topgolf Polaris is scheduled to be opened to the golfer and non-golfer alike August 2018.
