WIC Week 2021

In March the OCP team celebrated Women in Construction Week. The mission of Women in Construction (WIC) Week is to raise awareness of the opportunities available for women in the construction industry and to support building a diverse and inclusive workforce.

Women are an integral part of the workforce and a minority, therefore their voices must be amplified so they can share their stories to inspire future generations to join the industry.

The more diverse OCP's workforce is, the more successful we will be as a whole. A variety of backgrounds provides more perspectives, providing new insights and solutions. Together, we can commit to creating an atmosphere where team members feel valued and confident every day, not just during WIC Week.

Women in Construction by the Numbers

  • Women comprise only 10.9 percent of individuals working in the industry.
  • There is only one woman on the job site for every 100 employees in the field.
  • Since women make up 47% of the workforce, the construction industry is only benefitting from about 1.25 percent of women in the workforce.

The good news...

  • The amount of women-owned construction firms is growing now up to 13%.
  • 4% of new firms were launched by women last year, despite a global pandemic.
  • 44% of the top 100 contracting companies have women in executive roles.

New construction positions are expected to grow by 2 million in 2022. It is more essential than ever to bring women to the table. Recruiting women is essential to the growth of the industry.

Women in Construction week is about celebrating our current workforce and empowering everyone to recognize the need for a more inclusive team.

Giving Back Through Education

OCP Contractors is dedicated to giving back to the people within the communities in which they work. Aside from constructing public spaces, OCP's team regularly dedicates time to volunteer for various local organizations advancing education, healthcare, and overall community programming.

By educating young people on the wide range of careers in the industry, OCP hopes to encourage more women to explore construction as a viable option to support themselves and their families.

OCP also ensures every employee is growing through their own continuing education. OCP invests in every new employee through an apprenticeship program, providing state-of-the-art materials and safety training that goes above and beyond the industry standard.
